For a number of years I have been trying to photograph portraits of birds, specifically their heads, because I think showing that detail reveals a different side of a bird. Often when we see birds, we don’t get a chance to observe their faces close up. We can’t really peer into their eyes or see the detail on the thin layer of skin that covers their beak. For humans, the face is often the part of a person we engage with the most. Similarly, I wanted to present the head details of some common birds to perhaps show something that we normally don’t pay attention to in our everyday interaction with them. As with any portrait, the eyes are the most important part.
