Chequered Swallowtail at Namadgi National Park

This Chequered Swallowtail (Papilio demoleus) was fighting against a strong wind at Namadgi National Park. I had seen it flying around but the wind kept carrying it away. I’m unsure what flower it was feeding it on in the photograph, but I am glad it stayed still long enough for me to take a photo.

While the Chequered Swallowtail is a very common butterfly, it doesn’t breed in the ACT but migrates through in good years, when the weather permits, so is considered an uncommon migrant. I was very happy to see it enjoying a lovely spring day in Namadgi.
